More tiger reserves going Sariska - Panna Way
We had about 40 000 tigers at the beginning of the 19th century. Today we have about 1400. Which means, on an average, we have lost one tiger every single day for the last 108 years !! Listen to experts and forest staff. The answers are so common, it is shameful we can convert them into workable solutions.

Some of the questions media should raise

Everyone we have interviewed on environment, has acknowledged the role of media in raising voice about the declining numbers of tigers in India. Tigers are an important part of the web of life. They depend on prey, which in turn depends on grass, which in turn depends on water....

Man animal conflict plays a key role in maintaining eco balance. Man has been killing animals not just for money - poaching, but just to protect himself and the cattle. e.g. the snow leopards kill the yaks and horses and the herder has no choice but to kill in economic defence. Therefore, issues like economic development, livelihood opportunities, insurance of cattle...are part of a larger strategy.
This will give media multiple angles to influence common people.

HSBC's Environment & Life Forum would be happy to share rights of using the interviews on the forum and also share names of experts media can and should interview. For any information, write to Datacentre@IndianNGOs.com

Members of Parliament are the key
Every region has its own environmental issues. e.g. Mumbai has man animal conflict issues related to tigers in Borivali National Park, stray dogs in most of the wards, mangroves in east and west, air pollution across....MPs have greater opportunities to sit with their voters to understand the issues and share successfull solutions with communities from other parts of the country and the world. More importantly, environment & life gives opportunities for MPs to create national impact by raising voice about issues beyond their constituency, issues which are of state, national and global significance.

We will be sharing a feed on national environmental issues to MPs
