For India (TFI)
Teach
For India (TFI) is a national program that aims to reduce the
education gap in India by placing outstanding college graduates
and young professionals in low-income schools to teach for two-years.
In its launch year, TFI will place 100 Fellows in Pune and Mumbai.
TFI is currently
looking to partner with low-income, English-medium primary schools
in Mumbai. TFI Fellows will work as class teachers in schools
starting in June 2009 and each Fellow will work in placement
schools for two consecutive school years (June – April).
Prior to and during the first month of the program Fellows will
receive comprehensive training; Fellows will also ongoing receive
professional development during the two-year period.
Criteria for placement:
1. Schools should have at least 2 guaranteed teacher vacancies
starting in June 2009.
2. Schools should have proper infrastructure (desks/chairs for
students, blackboards in every classroom)
3. Schools should allow TFI to conduct monitoring and evaluation
of Fellows during the two years.
4. Schools should provide complete classroom autonomy to TFI
fellows.
